In the lush valley of Amari in Crete, just 38 kilometers from Rethymno, lies a unique agrotourism unit, Ā«PANAKRON ESTATEĀ. In a location of great natural beauty, very close to a large number of historical sites, the facilities are spread over a total area of 53 sq. km, including 5 furnished residences, a tavern-coffee shop, a pool, as well as basketball and volleyball courts. Both the interior and exterior facilities of the estate can be used for social and professional events.
ĀPANAKRON ESTATEĀ is an ideal destination for both one-day breaks, as well as longer stays. The fenced gardens create a safe environment for families with children, while the taverna serves delicious dishes based on recipes from Crete and Amari, using only wholesome local produce and fruit and vegetables grown with minimal watering. The residential complex is built on the north-eastern end of the estate, with a view of Mt. Psiloritis, Mt. Samitos and Mt. Kendros. The complex is very close to the pool, the tavern and the car park, and consists of 5 independent cottages in maisonette style that can accommodate 2 to 5 people each. They combine features of traditional architecture with modern materials and comforts, offering visitors a pleasant stay. The earthy tones, wood beam roofs, wooden furniture and stone-built sofas create a feeling of warmth and tranquillity. Each one has an open plan kitchen, living room, WC and attic with a double bed and a spacious veranda. The living room is complete with a fireplace, a dining table, a stone-built sofa that can also serve as a single bed and a wooden sofa that opens into two single beds. All of them have air conditioning, heating, fully equipped kitchenette and mini bar, a mini stereo system, an LCD satellite TV, telephone and free internet connection. ĀPANAKRON ESTATEĀ is at the heart of one of the richest in water and greenest areas in Crete, with a number of natural habitats, as well as countless archaeological sites and the highest number of Byzantine monuments in the island. Visitors can choose from a variety of activities to acquaint themselves with the nature and culture of Amari. It is characterized by its varied terrain, the result of faults that fragmented the hard rocks. Abrupt cliffs, inaccessible caves and impressive gorges surprise our visitors. What differentiates Amari from every other area on Crete, however, is the abundance of water, which creates the conditions for the development of rich flora, including a variety of endemic plants, bushes and trees; this is particularly important for several of the animal populations of the mountains. The regions of Mt. Psiloritis, Mt. Kendros and Mt. Samitos are nesting grounds for large birds of prey, such as the endangered harrier eagle, which hunt in the plain of Amari, using the high sharp cliffs as their base. |
